About the Department

The Rachana Sharir is branch of Ayurveda in which human anatomy is explained according to Ayurved Samhita. Shareera Rachana is also known as Anatomy in modern medical science. Rachana Shareera is the basic subjects in Ayurvedic medical science which deals with the study of structure of the human body and their relations by dissection. It also deals with anatomical aspects of the human body, including histology, embryology, myology, osteology etc. The knowledge of human anatomy is very much important for treatment of disease and other surgical procedures.

Lord Brahma is supreme engineer in the universe, designed the human body to perform extraordinary functions on earth. Acharya Sushruta is known as Father of Indian surgery and he was first scientist in the world exposed the lord Brahma designed human body for the study of anatomy by dissection and contributed lot for anatomy & surgery. Shushruta is the author of the book Sushruta Samhita, in which he describes over 300 surgical procedures and 120 surgical instruments and classifies human surgery in eight categories.

Facilities and Infrastructure:

    • Well equipped department with easy assessable departmental library.

    • Well equipped dissection hall with cadavers for dissection with all supportive instrument needed along with embalming room and store room.

    • Well-developed anatomy museum with sufficient specimens, models and charts.

    • Bone library is available for easy reference to the students.

    • Ample number of bone sets, slides and microscopes to teach Osteology and Histology.

    • The body donation unit is launched in our college and through this unit we are conducting body donation awareness campaign.

Academic and co curricular activities:

  • In theory we teach Ayurvedic and Contemporary aspects of Human body with equal importance.

  • Special training on Marma concepts and its clinical application by the support of expert.

  • We pay respect to the Cadaver by conducting cadaveric Oath for 1st year students every year in the beginning of their dissection in Curriculum.

  • In Ayurvedic aspects we provide lectures on structural concepts explained in Shareera stana of Sushruta Samhita, Ashtanga Hridaya and Charaka Samhita.

  • As part of curriculum activities, we do conduct study tour to visit museum of Anatomy every year.
